Ability meets big FCU order

Energy-efficient fan-coil units have been supplied by Ability Projects for this landmark development in London.

Nearly a thousand fan-coil units have been supplied by Ability projects for the landmark Watermark Place close to Cannon Street Station in London and alongside the River Thames. This highly specified commercial development offers 50 000 m2 of flexible grade A office accommodation and retail space. It comprises a group of lower-elevation buildings facing the river and taller 12-storey block to the rear. The complex has been designed to achieve a low carbon footprint and is expected to be awarded an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating. It is being developed by Watermark Place Oxford One Investments and UBS Global Asset Management.

The air-conditioning installation comprises Trojan EVO270 4- and 2-pipe EC/DC horizontal chassis-type fan-coil systems supplied by centralised chilled and LPHW systems. They have cooling capacities from 1.7 to 4 kW and heating capacities from 1 to 1.6 kW. These fan-coil units use up to 89% less electricity than comparable AC-drive units, infinite speed control, minimal heat from the motors and about double the life expectancy. All units were subjected to exhaustive thermal and acoustic testing at Ability’s in-house test centre to meet an operating sound requirement of NR33 at 30 Pa resistance.

These FCUs have extended condensate trays and valve commissioning caps. They are supplied with free-issue Honeywell controllers and Frese Optima self-balancing and fully modulating valve sets. The valve sets also incorporate test points.
