CIBSE National Conference targets sustainability

CIBSE’s National Conference in London on 28 and 29 April promises a packed programme focusing on both sustainability in building services and, crucially, how to create a more sustainable business. Topics include how to future proof your business, add value and updates on the new Part L and EPBD due in 2010.

The conference kicks off with a keynote address from Prof. Julia King, a member of the board of the Committee on Climate Change, on the topic ‘Carbon-saving targets, what are they now and how can we achieve them?’

Other speakers include Terry Wyatt, consultant to Hoare Lea, who will consider why inadequate servicing is the enemy of sustainability.

CLG’s principal building-services professional, Paul Decort, will discuss the consultation policy and technical issues associated with the new Part L due in 2010. He will also discuss the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive due in the same year.

The ever-practical Bill Bordass will consider real lessons from real life on designing for operation.

Other sessions will look at low-carbon refurbishment and other low-carbon solutions. There will also be a look at the real effect Energy Performance and Display Energy Certificates have had on property.

CIBSE’s National Conference regularly attracts over 300 building-services professionals. The conference is open to all, and anyone with an interest in the future of the building-services industry should attend.

Full details and online registration facilities are available on the CIBSE web site, www.cibse.org
