skid
As examples of the space-saving benefits of prefabricated equipment, skid-mounted units supplied by Rycroft for six Royal Navy destroyers are the ultimate. Not only is a multitude of equipment packed into the minimum footprint, but all components are accessible from the front for ease of servicing. The units comprise a 440 litre calorifier, with a 240 kW heater, control panel, cold-water pump, hot-water pump, 200 and 100 litre expansion vessels and all associated control valves and interconnecting pipework to supply hot and cold fresh water. There are two packages in each ship, acting in tandem to provide backup. One is mounted in the stern and the other in the bow section. they are secured via Y mounts for stability.
