MPS delivers design services for Basildon Sporting Village

Work has started on the £38 million Basildon Sporting Village, with design services from Morgan Professional Services

Morgan Professional Services is to deliver a wide range of design services for a new £38 million sports and leisure complex in Basildon. They include M&E design and civil- and structural-engineering design. Basildon Sporting Village will provide state-of-the-art facilities for sports, leisure and education in Gloucester Park, Basildon, and has been identified as a potential training camp for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Construction work is set to begin in October 2008, with completion in the Spring of 2011.

Indoor facilities will include a 50 m 8-lane swimming pool with a viewing area for 450 people, 8-court multi-purpose sports hall with retractable seating for 480 people, a fully equipped gymnastics centre, multi-purpose studio, 100-workstation health-and-fitness suite and a climbing wall. There will also be meeting rooms, exhibition areas, creche and a cafe.

Sustainable energy-saving features include solar panels, CHP boiler and natural-ventilation units on the roof.

More refrigerant bans possible, says government
