Task Displays takes energy savings to Task

Riegens, lighting
New luminaires from Riegens have reduced the installed load in this workshop by 44% and can be controlled according to daylight availability through new skylights.

The installed lighting load in the manufacturing and workshop areas of Task Displays in Leicester has been reduced by 44% with the support of a Carbon Trust loan. Task Displays operates from 3700 m2 premises in Leicester and supplies most of the UK’s major shopping centres with bespoke displays for individual retail outlets or across a wide chain of stores.

Part of the refurbishment included new skylights in the workshop areas to make more use of daylight. The new lighting supplied by Riegens included the Saleni range of batten luminaires using one or two 80 W T5 lamps to replace the original basic fittings using 100 W lamps.

The new luminaires are connected to sensors that control light output according to the available daylight. Riegens also modified the Saleni fitting with a more robust backing to allow for easy fitting to existing trunking running throughout the building.

Paul Johnson, managing director of Task Displays, comments, ‘As each area of our factory was refurbished, not only did the lights have an uplifting effect on the workforce, but the energy savings have been considerable. I can now see the potential for other factories to do the same, and I am pleased to spread the word and help cut down energy usage. The last phase of our refurbishment will be to change the lighting in our administration areas using the Riegens Mira range of luminaires.’
