Durapipe’s Friatherm pipework has been used in the refurbishment of Leeds Blood Transfusion Centre.
To meet contemporary performance and hygiene standards, Durapipe’s Friatherm pipework has been used in the refurbishment of Leeds Blood Transfusion Centre as part of the upgrading of all hot- and cold-water services. ‘This was a like-for-like replacement,’ explains Andy McDonald of SIAS Building Services, which selected Friatherm. ‘It was decided to remain with Friatherm because its high-grade plastic material fulfils the performance requirements for the flow of water and the hygiene standards demanded of this environment.’ The work involved replacing pipework and sinks throughout the building. Pipe sizes from 16 to 25 mm were used to build a system connected to the mains and operated by pumping water up to storage tanks in the plant room. The fast and simple jointing helped avoid delays. The specially equipped tapered socket requires no pipe-end preparation or hot works. The system also allows for easy changes or additions at any stage in the life cycle of the building without compromising flow rates or hygiene.
