Trox takes chilled beams to Newcastle

Citygate
Over 500 chilled beams were made and supplied by Trox for Phase 2 of the Citygate development in Newcastle upon Tyne.
When the internal layout of Phase 2 of the Citygate project in Newcastle upon Tyne changed, Trox adapted the specification of its chilled beams and enabled them to be called off floor by floor, minimising redundant kit. The original concept was for open-plan offices, but a number of cellular offices came into being after the original design had been completed. Over 500 recessed passive beams are used throughout the building, which has a 5-storey wing linked to an 8-story wing. The beams are in five lengths from 1.5 to 4 m and were supplied in a series of eight carefully staggered deliveries. The beams are above a false suspended ceiling on each floor. They have a metal case surrounding the cooling coil, with a flexible skirt on the bottom that provides a chimney-stack effect to force cooled air downwards into the office space below. Trox also supplied grilles and diffusers. The beams were specified by M&E Contractor Balfour Kilpatrick of Newcastle.
