Lumicom leads the way in luminaire recycling

Lumicom, luminaire recycling

Lumicom’s recycling service for luminaires uses recyclers that are authorised by the Environment Agency and capable of 70% recovery by weight and 50% re-use and recycling of components, material and other substances. Lumicom finances the recycling and requires its recyclers to use the best available treatment practices and advises them on the recyclability of new materials used in producing luminaires.

In 2009, Lumicom recycled more luminaires than all rival compliance schemes put together.

Lumicom is a membership organisation, and Angus Shield of Thorn Lighting observed, ‘Being a member of Lumicom gives Thorn the confidence to assure our clients, who have committed themselves to improving the environmental sustainability of their businesses, that we share their values and that we want all of our WEEE responsibilities to be met in full.’
