Partnership boosts student accommodation at University of Aston

University of Aston, Derwent

Thousands of new student rooms are to be created on the campus of Aston University by a £214 million partnership agreement. The university, Bank of Scotland and Derwent Living Group (a specialist in student accommodation) are trustees of Aston Student Villages, a charity that will manage 3000 new student rooms for the next 35 years.

The development will involve the demolition of a number of 1970s tower blocks, the retention of 650 beds at Lakeside and the construction of 2350 new student units. The outcome will be a 40%-plus increase in student accommodation on the campus.

The first phase of 1300 rooms has already been completed, and the next phase of 1000 rooms is due for completion by August 2010.
