Ackermann systems add harmony to music centre

Sage Centre
All three types of Ackermann Onix floor boxes feature in the electrical installation for the Sage centre in Gateshead.
Cultural landmark Sage Gateshead has become the first major project to use all three versions of Ackermann Onix underfloor boxes, including one that is water resistant. Electric power is distributed via Ackermann screed trunking. In Terrazzo flooring, such as installed in the concourse, access to the ducting is via custom-designed floor boxes using the water-resistant Onix cassette with centre cord outlets. With the cable outlet down, the unit conforms to an IP rating of 65, so that the floor can be wet washed. Circular aluminium floor boxes with a centre cord outlet are installed in wooden floors, with round Ackermann German floor boxes in carpeted areas. This music centre is designed by Foster & Partner. It will have three auditoria, ranging from a 1700-seat concert hall to a rehearsal hall. There are also 25 teaching spaces, practice room, workshops, a recording studio and a music information resource centres.
