Packaged boiler plant plays key role in refurbishing hotel heating system

Aging boiler plant in this hotel in Bournemouth has been replaced with packaged boiler plant designed and supplied by Potterton Commercial.

Potterton Commercial has designed and supplied a Paramount MB package boiler plant for the Heathlands Hotel in Bournemouth. It has 114 bedrooms and is set in its own landscaped gardens in the centre of Bournemouth. It was recently acquired by Britannia Hotels, which noted that the heating system was aged and in a poor state of repair.

A functional brief for plant replacement was written by the group’s energy manager, Mike Elwin, and issued to five boiler manufacturers, which led to Potterton designing and supplying the package, which was installed in liaison with Britannia’s in-house mechanical engineers, who renewed other aspects of the heating and hot-water system.

The 460 kW packaged boiler plant operates at a higher pressure than the previous boilers, so a plate heat exchanger was installed to separate it from the existing heating system. Once delivered, the new system was assembled in the new plant room in just four hours, ready for plug-and-play connection works on site.
