Dane Housing tackles scalding risks

To prevent the risk of scalding in baths, Dane Housing has installed Honeywell thermostatic mixing valves throughout its communal homes

The danger of scalding from hot water in baths in the communal homes of Dane Housing of Congleton in Cheshire has been eliminated by fitting Honeywell fail-safe thermostatic mixing valves. The TM200VP valves are approved to the TMV3 standard and ensure a safe hot-water temperature by mixing hot and cold supplies to a preset temperature. They also shut off the hot water automatically if the cold supply fails. Andy Mason, gas/plumbing technician with Dane Housing, says, ‘Our property maintenance specialists found the valves easy to install, with minimal alteration to existing pipework. In some buildings, Honeywell pressure-reducing valves were installed to balance the pressures of the mains and header tank supplies. Andy Mason explains that the next step is to install thermostatic mixing valves on wash basins. Dane Housing has a partnership with Honeywell, which provides all water and heating controls for its 4000 properties. Dane Housing is becoming known as a leading innovator in facilitating and delivering affordable special-needs housing. It has established effective joint working arrangements, in partnership with a variety of agencies, to provide support and accommodation for vulnerable people in the community.
