Vent-Axia adds demand control to Sentinel Totus ventilation unit

Vent-Axia has launched the next generation of its Sentinel Totus demand energy-recovery-ventilation (D-ERV) system. Part of the company’s Lo Carbon initiative, this improved range integrates the proven concept of demand-controlled ventilation with high-efficiency EC/DC motor technology and a counterflow heat-recovery cell to achieve up to 94% energy recovery.

These units are suitable for applications with changing occupancy patterns, such as schools, hotels, theatres and offices.

The new range also reduces sound levels by using high-density acoustic insulation and improved air paths to reduce turbulence and its associated system noise. The specific fan power is less than 1.8 W/l s.

Another new feature is 100% summer bypass, rather than the 70% that is usually achieved by opening dampers just on the bypass itself. When temperatures rise, the new Sentinel Totus closes off the airflow from the eat exchanger and open a bypass for the air to flow through. This feature enables free cooling to be provided when the ambient temperature is below the room design condition.

The frost heater control has been modified to provide top-up heating as well as frost protection.

Demand control can be based on timeclock or occupancy detection to activate the unit, with additional proportional airflow control from a combination of sensors such as CO2, humidity and temperature.

The user can also enable night purge to cool the building overnight if required.
