Radiators as the key to efficient low-temperature heating

Purmo is presenting its range of radiators as offering a potential energy saving of 15% in low-temperature heating systems compared with other types of heat emitter, particularly in applications using renewable-heat sources. Chris Atkins, sales and marketing director, explains, ‘The secret is largely in their ability to react rapidly to changes in temperature as and when they are required.

‘It is also worth noting that all the heat available is emitted into the room from a radiator, whereas some may be lost to the floor itself in the case of underfloor heating for example.’

The energy-saving potential of radiators forms the basis of Purmo’s ‘Clever heating campaign’ through its web site (link below).

Research from the Helsinki University of Technology showed that an underfloor system, although a good option in many settings, is significantly slower to react to heat gains once they are detected.

The research concluded that savings of some 15% could be made using a low-temperature heating system with modern radiators designed and manufactured for use with such systems.
