Xpelair provides effective ventilation for new housing

Xpelair’s Premier Ultra DC3 range of fans was specified for a major development of affordable homes built on a greenfield site by Bromsgrove District Housing Trust and West Mercia Housing Group. The £16 million scheme, supported by a grant from the Homes & Communities Agency and Bromsgrove District Council, aims to tackle the housing shortage that sees over 3000 residents on waiting lists for homes in this area.
Developed by Wates Living Space, the project consists of 158 new properties comprising one and 2-bedroom apartments; houses with two, three and four bedrooms; and 2-bedroom bungalows. The homes are available for shared ownership and rental.
These ventilation units are designed to meet the requirements of the Building Regulations for intermittent or decentralised MEV extract use and are suitable for through-the-wall or ducted applications in bathrooms, kitchens, toilets and utility rooms.
The constant trickle feature means that when a unit is installed in every wet area of a property, it can be classed as a decentralised MEV whole-house system.
Steven Mongan, head of marketing with Xpelair Ventilation Solutions, explains, ‘A extremely common issue faced by many social-housing organisations is tenants switching off their ventilation fan because they perceive it as expensive to run. With a whole-house ventilation system installed, the risk of this happening is eliminated.’
These units also have an integral power supply, so no additional external electrical connections are required.
