Iona Abbey renovates with electric boilers

pace heating, Atlantic Boilers, electric boiler

Atlantic Boilers has commissioned two electric boilers at Iona Abbey on the Isle of Iona off the west coast of Scotland. The work was part of a programme of renewing engineering installations in a number of historic buildings in Scotland to reduce carbon emissions, including Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.

Iona Abbey was founded by St Columbus in 563 and was a celebrated focus for Christian pilgrimage. It now welcomes up to 50 guests a week and thousands of pilgrims every day during the summer.

Ongoing work on re-establishing the living accommodation has now seen the boiler room being refurbished. Two Atlantic 90 kW Multi-elec boilers are the first stage in replacing four old boilers. It is intended to add a sea- or ground-source heat pumps later.
