Replacement Turbomiser chiller set to halve costs

Cool-Therm, Turbomiser, Chiller
This Turbomiser chiller is using about half the energy of the life-expired centrifugal chiller it replaced at a packaging manufacture.

Cool-Therm has replaced a life-expired centrifugal chiller at packaging manufacturer Amcor Flexibles Winterbourne with a Turbomiser chiller. It is believed to be the first such chiller in the packaging sector. Cool-Therm has worked with Amcor for over 20 years, installing and servicing three large chillers at its site on the outskirts of Bristol. The new chiller operates around the clock, all year round, maximising savings.

Andreij Duma, operations director at Amcor, said, ‘Cool-Therm anticipated a 20 to 25% energy saving with the introduction of Turbomiser. However, the performance over the first six months looks even better, and the latest figures show a saving of just under 50%.’

Ken Strong, managing director of Cool-Therm, explains that those figures were for the warm season and that even better efficiency is to be expected during winter with Turbomiser able to operate at lower condensing temperatures where the efficiency advantages are greatest.

Turbomiser has integral inverter drives, enabling very fine incremental adjustments to be made to match output to cooling load.
