Hoare Lea partners and over 500 guests recently marked the organisation’s 150th anniversary.

Consulting engineers Hoare Lea marked its 150th anniversary with a reception at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London. Over 500 guests from the property and construction industries, including Hoare Lea staff, clients and colleagues, attended. Founded by Henry Lea in 1862, Hoare Lea has grown to become the UK’s largest firm of consulting engineers specialising in MEP engineering.The group has over 600 people in 13 offices across the UK and internationally.

When Henry Lea opened his Birmingham office in 1862, he announced himself as a consulting mechanical engineer.

He was responsible for engineering the ventilation system in what is considered to be the world’s first fully air-conditioned building for human comfort, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. At Birmingham Town Hall, he supervised one of the first electric lighting installations in a large public building.
