Building controls match high spec of new homes

Behind the elegant facade of these £2.8 million homes in Gerrards Cross is a control system based on EIB and supplied by ABB.
Mentmore Homes is installing intelligent building controls from ABB in a prestigious project in Gerrards Cross, Bucks. The Georgian-style exterior of the £2.8 million, 5/6 bedroom homes hides a luxury development featuring a home cinema, gym and sauna. ABB’s EIB products ensure that lighting and heating match up to the rest of the top-specification build. Brian Peck, managing director of Mentmore Homes, explains, ‘The EIB system allows the homeowners to virtually create their own living environment. It enables people to change the mood in an instant.’ The EIB approach avoids hundreds of power cables having to be installed by using a twin-core data cable to carry signals to and from sensors or control devices to an actuator, which then controls the device locally. Systems are configured and commissioned using a PC equipped with specialist EIB software. If the function of a room changes, the temperature and lighting cycles can be reprogrammed. Settings can be over-ridden at any time.
