Xpelair meets low-noise criteria for school ventilation project

Quiet and energy efficient, Xpelair Xcell heat-recovery ventilation units provided a bespoke solution for Halliford School, Shepperton.

As part of ongoing refurbishment Xpelair’s Customvent division has provided a bespoke high-efficiency ventilation system for Halliford School in Shepperton. The system needed to meet and exceed stringent acoustic regulations that were imposed during planning stages because of the proximity of the school to local housing.

The required solution also had to improve the energy efficiency and sustainability credentials of the school, while ensuring people in the school have access to clean, fresh and healthy air.

Omega Building Services installed a number of Xpelair’s Xcell 1200 high-efficiency heat-recovery units, along with XSRA single-speed and XTRA twin-speed fans with controls. The range includes technologies aimed at delivering optimal indoor air quality with minimal energy consumption — including a high-efficiency aluminium counterflow heat exchanger, ultra-efficient EC motors with back-curved impellers and integrated controls.

Roger Moore, project director for Omega Building Services, comments, ‘The Xcell units will help improve the energy efficiency of the school and reduce energy bills by utilising heat cells capable of recovering up to 92% of heat from extracted air and transferring it to incoming fresh air.’

He continues, ‘The chosen units needed to achieve 41 dB(A), and Xpelair’s Xcell were able to accomplish this and more, making them the ideal product for the job due to their superior acoustics rates.’
