Solar heating for large buildings

Kingspan, renewable energy, space heating, transpired solar collector

Kingspan Insulated Panels has launched the Sol-Air intelligent solar air-heating system. Previously known as EnergiPanel, Sol-Air absorbs incident solar radiation and converts it to heat, warming air to be used in a building’s heating system. Sol-Air can significantly reduce a building’s carbon emissions and help deliver LEED and BREEAM credits. Large-scale tests have shown that heating costs can be reduced by up to 20%.

An installation at the Asda store at Illingworth in Yorkshire is on the southern elevation and expected to save around 76 t of CO2 a year and reduce heating bills by up to 20%. The installation of Kingspan insulated panels to other parts of the building will maximise the benefits by ensuring a thermally efficient envelope.
