Monodraught delivers natural ventilation for new Tesco Eco Store

Monodraught, natural ventilation

Natural ventilation for the 7664 m2 sales area of Tesco’s newest and largest Eco Store is provided by Monodraught Windcatcher X-Air systems. These systems are on the Tesco approved list for its Eco Stores and have previously been specified by architect Woods Hardwick, the project’s master planner and designer. The store was built by developer Mulberry to Tesco’s specification on the St James Industrial Park.

Karl Myhill, commercial director with Woods Hardwick, explains that in response to updated Building Regulations, Tesco has included energy-saving and sustainable initiatives to go beyond the standard requirement of 50% carbon reduction and ensure that the store is as sustainable and energy efficient as possible. Monodraught supplied 12 oval Windcatcher X-Air systems, aerodynamically designed to deliver the optimum ventilation rate to extract air from the vast main sales area and introduce fresh air.

For this store, Monodraught created a unique terminal, which is now a distinctive feature of new Eco Stores and an integral part of the corporate image of the buildings.

The building has achieved a BREEAM ‘Very good’ rating — even without solarPV and wind turbines.
