Dorset council takes control of lighting costs

The full range of lighting-control options is provided by CP Electronics equipment in the new offices of West Dorset District Council.

A high level of lighting control without the need for a control network is achieved in the new offices of West Dorset District Council using CP Electronics’ Vitesse Plus and Vitesse Modular systems. The council’s move to smaller and more energy-efficient offices called South Walks in Dorchester has helped the council reduce its running costs and impact on the environment.

The Vitesse Plus lighting distribution system offers presence and daylight linking and has been used on all four office floors. Rapid LCM was chosen for the committee rooms.

Vitesse is a marshalling box with simple, pluggable outputs that enable ease of installation and commissioning. It has 10 outputs that can be used with a range of control options — including photocell-controlled and manual dimming, presence or absence detection, corridor linking and manual switching, as well as testing of emergency lighting. It also offers manual over-ride for presence detection.

Four of the committee rooms are divided by partitions and have scene setting and micro-switches to enable them to function as individual or larger rooms. Vitesse Plus PIR provides presence detection with daylight linking throughout, with the flexibility for future changes as the system has been installed using plug and play.
