Mediaeval meets modern in restored Welsh Mansion

Nibe, heat pump, space heating, DHW, renewable energy
The pool in the grounds of this mansion in Wales is one of the heat sources for a Nibe heat-pump system.

Water from a pool in the grounds of a mansion in Wales provides the heat source for the open-loop heat-pump system installed as part of a major restoration project. Aberglasney Mansion & Gardens in Carmarthenshire draws heat from the pool using a Nibe heat-pump system to heat the house and internal garden. It is supported by an outside air collector to provide additional heat in hybrid operation.

Robin Bowen, managing director of Good Life, which installed the system, explains, ‘We specified a 60 kW F1345 ground-source heat pump with an open-loop system. The heat pump works in conjunction with Nibe’s AMB 30 air-collector unit, which gathers additional heat from the air and becomes the primary heat source when the air temperature is higher than the pool.’

Restoration on the formerly derelict site began about 14 years ago, with extensive work to bring the mediaeval property’s ‘lost gardens’ back to their former glory.
