McDonald Engineers cuts heating costs for tower block
McDonald Engineers’ solution has replace the electrical heating system in 91 apartments in a tower block in the north east of England, dramatically reducing energy costs. Centralflow combines the benefits of a heat-interface unit with an indirect thermal store that is served by a centralised boiler system.
The units for this project incorporate bespoke 120 l rectangular thermal stores to provide mains-pressure hot water. The supporting frame was produced with a recess to accommodate existing pipework, reducing any installation issues.
Sales director Jamie Steward explains, ‘Our Centralflow solution has been developed to help local authorities and housing associations reduce energy consumption in their tower blocks, whilst offering tenants significant benefits in terms of mains-pressure water and reduced maintenance.’
‘The savings can be enhanced by incorporating renewable energy such as solar thermal, heat pumps and biomass into the central boiler system. The system can also offer pay-as-you-go metering.’
