Partnership of Barclays and Smart Buildings wins CIBSE Building Performance Award

The engineering department of Barclays has teamed up with Smart Buildings of Leeds to develop a fully integrated platform that interacts with its building equipment such as boilers, lights, thermostats and critical plant to provide secure monitoring, management and control of equipment for the entire Barclays portfolio. The partnership won the ‘Building Controls System Award 2015’ at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards.

All information is managed and maintained via an app suite developed by Smart Buildings; it is accessed via a desktop PC, iPad or smartphone.

The app suite creates a virtual control centre and is accessible from anywhere in the world.

An initial trial had shown an average of 9% energy reduction across 12 branches, with up to 23% in certain branches.

A nationwide roll-out across 1200 branches began in January 2015, significantly reducing staff resource time and energy costs across the entire portfolio. The notable energy savings have reduced the organisation’s environmental impact whilst maintaining the comfort of staff and customers across all branches.
