Car park reduces carbon emissions by 45% with LEDs

Yet another project to achieve major reductions in energy use and carbon emissions by replacing fluorescent lights with LEDs is the multi-storey car park at Bournemouth International Centre. The installation of some 400 Tridonic LED lights and motion sensors saved over 135 MWh in 12 months and reduced carbon emissions by 45%.

Peter Portnoi, head of facilities management for BH Live, which manages Bournemouth International Centre in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council, explains, ‘Our on-site electrical crew came up with the concept and designed a new, energy-efficient scheme for our 650-space multi-storey car park. ‘They teamed up with Littledown Lighting to install the system.’

The existing fluorescent gear trays were replaced with Tridonic’s LED boards and around 400 LCAI drivers. As well as significant savings in energy, a significant reduction in lamp replacements is expected.
