Atag supplies replacement boilers for Keele University

Atag XL boilers have been installed at Keele University as replacements in heating and hot-water systems servicing the IC1 and IC2 science block. One of the key selection criteria was low lifetime costs. The boilers were supplied by Atag Commercial and installed by the main contractor for the work, Climate Heating & Plumbing Services.

Chris Holland, the university’s science and business-park manager, will monitor the boilers’ performance for a year. His department has created a special program to compute weather data against fuel use and costs to measure annual energy savings accurately.

The installation at IC1 comprises three XL140 and one XL70 in a back-to-back configuration They are linked to a standard cylinder, also supplied by Atag.

The installation for IC2 comprises three XL 110 boilers linked to an Atag solar cylinder.

Chris Holland explains, ‘While the old systems have given good service over the years, they couldn’t match the efficiency levels of the latest boiler technology. There was also an issue with the availability of parts.’

Before the boilers were specified, key staff from the facilities department were invited to training sessions at Atag’s headquarters in Chichester, where the technical advantages and operational benefits of the XL boilers were outlined in detail.
