Heat-pump hybrid chiller delivers hot and cold water at the same time
The first UK installation of Rhoss EXP hybrid cooling-and-heating technology from Klima-Therm has been completed at the Creative Industries Centre at Kingston College, London. This heat-pump-based chiller was specified by consultant Hamson JPA for its energy efficiency and ability to provide simultaneous chilled water and hot water, linked to whole-building energy harvesting. It was installed by Lowe & Oliver.
The chiller has separate heat exchangers for producing chilled water and hot water, and they are connective separately to their respective circuits by dedicated pipework.
The EXP chiller can therefore automatically balance simultaneous cooling and heating demands, optimising total energy use and heat recovery in multi-compartmented buildings.
The predicted load profiles for the new college building indicated simultaneous heating and cooling requirements across the building for much of the year. The chiller installed has a cooling capacity of 105 kW and a heating capacity of 83 kW. Its intelligent on-board controls respond to the building’s demands with little intervention from the BMS.
