Delayed Bradford shopping centre opens
The recently opened £260 million Broadway shopping centre in Bradford, a project that was stalled for six years because of the global financial crisis. features services installed by Pitts Wilson in a £7 million M&E contract in a joint tender with another Bradford firm, Mitton Mechanical Services. The 10-year-old original specification was updated to deliver M&E schemes fit for the future, as well as delivering the project on time and to budget. Construction was restarted in January 2014 for Westfield.
The main challenge was that the lighting the original consultant had specified for the public areas had become obsolete. Pitts Wilson designed new energy-efficient schemes using LEDs for all public areas and some external areas.
A document-management portal enabled new designs to be viewed and approved by all relevant parties. Site personnel used specially designed software (SiteWorks) on iPads to manager the quality of installation from start to handover.
