Stokvis provides cure for hospital boiler problem

The energy-efficient replacement of a large, outdated system in Yeatman Hospital which had become unreliable has been achieved using three Stokvis wall-hung condensing boilers.
Three Stokvis wall-hung condensing boilers have been selected to replace a large, outdated unit in a hospital which had become unreliable. The cascade-style installation was carried out for the North Dorset Primary Care Trust at Yeatman Hospital in Sherborne by H. W. Smith & Sons. The specification was made on the basis of the Econoflame R30 condensing boilers providing high efficiency and low environmental impact. The fully modulating operation is associated with low emissions. Contracts manager Gordon Luff explains, ‘One of the old boilers broke down over a busy period, and we began by fitting an Econoplate plate heat exchanger to help cope. It was then decided in conjunction with David Hambridge, head of estates for the trust, to fit the three wall-mounted boilers and other equipment, to complete the improvements. Aside from a minor commissioning problem, which the Stokvis engineer came down and rectified, the job went very smoothly.’ The work included the installation of an Econoplate packaged plate heat exchanger with a direct on-mains kit and a 500 l buffer vessel, as well as the three boilers. The cascade firing sequence is controlled by a KKM unit.
