Mixed-mode air conditioning

Mitsubishi Electric has prepared a CPD-accredited guide to mixed-mode air-conditioning systems that combine natural ventilation with mechanical air conditioning. Mixed-mode heating and cooling systems are designed to achieve low-energy building comfort, reducing carbon-dioxide emissions. The guide explains how running passive ventilation overnight removes heat from a building during unoccupied hours. A detailed case study shows how on a typical day in July 2004, energy consumption was reduced by 57%, 39% being due to natural overnight cooling.
