York scroll chillers maximise European performance

York’s Tempo air-cooled scroll chiller range offer cooling capacities from 180 to 480 kW.
The Tempo range of air-cooled scroll chillers from York offers cooling capacities from 180 to 480 kW and uses R410A. Standard-efficiency models achieve an average EER of 2.74, and high-efficiency units reach 3.1. By introducing multi-scroll configurations to increase full- and part-load performances, these chillers achieve high European seasonal energy-efficiency ratios, which will be part of the European chiller programme during 2006. Leaving-water temperatures can range from 4.5 to 15°C, and down to –10°C with glycol. Tempo chillers can operate in ambient temperatures from –18 to 50°C. The Tempo range includes two low-noise units with options of 2-speed condenser fans and compressor sound enclosure. A specially designed LS model has fans locked into star (slow speed) to reduce sound-pressure levels to 54 dB(A) and 10 m. Other options include an integral Hydrokit with no increase in unit size and active controls to eliminate the need for a buffer tank, power-factor correction, condenser coil protection, high-head fans and a de-superheater to provide hot water at 60°C.

More refrigerant bans possible, says government

The government could tighten up the rules that restrict the use of global warming refrigerant gases including speeding up phase-out programmes and introducing new bans, according to a spokesman from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Baxi research suggests schools strongly support heat decarbonisation

A survey conducted by Baxi of 200 state school estates managers, consultant engineers and M&E contractors has found that while enthusiasm for Net Zero and support for low carbon heating systems in schools is thriving, persistent barriers remain.
