Star Refrigeration develops low-leakage chiller range

In response to impending F-gas regulations, Star Refrigeration has developed a new chiller for building services and process cooling. The Indigochiller packaged chiller is designed to minimise potential refrigerant leakage. These-high-performance units are designed for medium- to large-scale air-conditioning applications, and Star’s research indicates that their energy consumption is 40% less than a standard chiller operating on typical load and ambient profiles. The low-maintenance compressors are oil free and use electro-magnetic bearings to ensure minimal vibration and low noise levels. Other design features include a welded plate and shell heat exchanger, a sealed expansion valve and welded steel pipework. The refrigerant is R134a. The entry-level water-cooled model has a cooling capacity of 250 kW from a footprint of less than 3 m2. The water-cooled range extends up to 1500 kW, chilling water from 12 to 6°C. Standard and low-noise air-cooled units are offered with capacities from 250 to 1000 kW. The option of a SCADA system is available, providing graphics screens, trend graphing and even logging. Remote access is also available via a modem, with an optional link to Star’s 24-hour monitoring and call-out facility.
