York heat pump brings abbey close to nature

With recent refurbishment and additional buildings added to the public areas of Glenstal Abbey in County Limerick demanding an overhaul of the existing heating equipment, York has provided a heat pump as part of a geothermal system. Glenstal Abbey is a Benedictine monastery comprising a 500 acre estate surrounding a castle. The monks manage a boarding school for boys, a dairy farm and a guest house. The YCSE heat pump was specified as part of the geothermal system design by Dunstar. It is located in a plant room close to the church, library and other buildings. Water from the lake provides the heat source for the heat pump, which delivers water at 50°C to radiators in the church and an underfloor heating system elsewhere on the site. York’s Cork office has supplied heat pumps for eight Dunstar projects and is discussing several new projects.
