Preinsulated piping halves installation costs

The installation costs for piping in Europe’s largest cold store have been halved using a pre-insulated ABS piping system. The 330 000 m3 chilled warehouse of Cadbury’s near the M6 in Birmingham had its pipework installed by Innovate Refrigeration, which specified GF Cool-Fit, supplied by Manor, the specialist copper and plastics division of BSS. The pipework was delivered ready to install. Because it weighs 88% less than steel, there was no need to hire cranes. Other factors contributing to reduced installation time were simplicity of installation, integral insulation and simple jointing method. Ian Smith, national sales manager with BSS Manor, comments, ‘Cool-Fit is an excellent example of how modern plastic piping system are replacing steel systems in many industrial environments. For this installation, the ability to prefabricate before delivery to site was a major benefit.’
