Reporting profits up by 61% — Bill Robertson, executive chairman of Robertson Group.
Robertson Group, based in north-east Scotland reports turnover up by 13% to £159 million and an increase in operating profit of 61% to £9.5 million. Executive chairman Bill Robertson believes the group is reaping the reward of a 5-year strategy that has seen it evolve into separate companies. The result cover the year to 30 November 2005. He explains that the restructuring of the group has seen nine separate companies evolve from one large construction group, helping to facilitate the strong performance. ‘We believe by taking a fresh approach and creating these relatively smaller companies, we have added to the value of the group while maintaining continued growth. ‘The philosophy has not only created nine autonomous companies but also a group of entrepreneurial managers who have thrived on the opportunity given to them by taking responsibility for their own business.’ Robertson Capital Projects, the PFI operating company, has been appointed preferred bidder with Sir Robert McAlpine in a £100 million programme of PPP schools in Dundee. The company is also preferred bidder for the Forfar and Carnoustie £45 million schools project and has reached partial services commencement on the second phase of the £50 million Aberdeenshire Schools PPP project. The joint venture with Carillion on the £30 million Redcar & Cleveland Grouped Schools PFI project is nearing completion. Other PFI investments cover health and housing. The facilities-management company won its first contract at New Craigs Hospital in Inverness in January 2000 and now operates on 25 sites from Invergordon in Highland to Stockton on Tees in north-east England. Most of these contracts are on 25/30-year concessions and make up a £300 million-plus order book.
