Fire Fighting Enterprises has launched the first in a new family of optical-beam smoke detectors that have been designed from first principles to address the needs of installers and end users. The Fireray 5000 has a visible laser beam which is aligned along the optical path of the infra-red beam to help the user correctly set the reflective prism, ensuring the beam is not incorrectly aligned on another reflective object. When the beam is roughly aligned, an auto-optimising function takes over, steering the beam into the optimum position. The Fireray 5000 automatically compensates for subsequent deviations from the optimum position and automatically realigns the beam, taking into account factors such as building movement. If required, the user can guide the beam manually using a keypad on the low-level system controller. Automatic contamination control preserves the set signal level and maintains a constant sensitivity to fire. Separate first-fix back boxes on both detector and controller simplify wiring and installation. The 2-wire interface between detector and system controller minimises installation costs.
