30-year celebrations take Buro Happold back to Emirates Stadium

The recently Emirates Stadium, for which Buro Happold provided a wide range of consultancy services, provided the venue for its 30th anniversary.
Buro Happold’s 30th anniversary celebrations at the new Emirates Stadium of Arsenal Football Club raised over £2000 for the club’s charity of the season. Bids for a football shirt donated by Arsenal FC and signed by the current team reached £2250 during the evening. The event was attended by over 500 clients and friends of this multi-disciplinary consultancy. The event was also an opportunity for Buro Happold to showcase its work on the Emirates Stadium, and guests were invited to tour the 60 000-seat stadium. The practice was appointed for the project in March 2000, along with architect HOK Sport. The initial appointment was for structural engineering. As the design evolved, the practice was asked to provide more services — including civil and geotechnical engineering, bridges, building-services engineering, infrastructure, fire engineering, disability design and security. The auction proceeds are going to the Willow Foundation, a charity that arranges special days for seriously ill young adults. It was founded by former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his wife in memory of their daughter Anna, who died of cancer.
