McQuay AHU business takes off at Heathrow

Up to 300 air-handling units, worth over £3 million, could eventually be supplied by McQuay for Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, Delivery will be completed in about two years’ time. Jim Henley, general manager of the company, says, ‘This could be our largest single order for AHUs, in terms of number of units, since the Easdale design was launched in the early 1980s. Before this, the biggest order had been for Terminal 4.’ So far over 120 new-generation Easdale units have been ordered by Amec and Crown House. In the first phase, 88 units worth over £1 million, will be supplied to Amex for the arrivals/departures, retail outlets and check-in lounges. Each high-specification double-stacked AHU will have an air volume of 6, 8 or 10 m3/s. On completion, each unit will be installed, with related items, into prefabricated modules at a location in Scotland and delivered to site by road. Units for the remaining phases will be supplied to Crown House as traditional single/double-stack units for conventional installation in the concourses of the two satellite buildings, control tower, Underground station, baggage handling and other areas.
