University libraries to receive free CIBSE guides

A full set of the CIBSE guides, which offer comprehensive technical guidance on key areas of building services, is being sent free to every university offering accredited building-services courses as part of an initiative to support the next generation of engineers. University libraries in the UK will receive the updated versions as they are published. Guides providing reference data and on building-control systems are due out next year. Stephen Matthews, CIBSE’s chief executive, says, ‘The CIBSE guides are an essential tool for engineers, who must ensure that their work meets accepted industry standards. They tackle the essential challenge of energy efficiency appropriately. This donation will help students become familiar with the guides while they are training so that they can make quick and easy reference to them once they are in the even more pressured world of work.’ The initiative is part of a long-term strategy by CIBSE to increase its work in promoting the building-services industry and forms part of a wider career policy — including bursaries and scholarships.’
