Power failures will not be a sting in the tail for Scorpion Security following the installation of a Helper generator system by Scorpion Power Systems to deliver a high-quality supply for IT applications.
When Scorpion Security wanted to avoid the risk of power failures rendering its remote monitoring equipment unable to function, it turned to its namesake — Scorpion Power Systems — to include a 8 kVA low-noise automatic mains-failure generator system. Michael Bennett, managing director of Scorpion Security, explains, ‘The British Security Industry Association and the National Security Inspectorate state that security companies need to have backup power to support CCTV and other IT applications in case of power outages. As a UPS will only give about 4 h backup, we decided to purchase a generator which enables us to maintain our services whatever the length of the power cut.’ If a the mains fails, the Helper automatically provides a back-up supply of high-quality electricity for IT applications. The Helper is ventilated through a grille in the outside wall and has noise levels as low as 58 dB(A) at 7 m. They are powered by a Honda engine and can be fuelled by unleaded petrol, propane gas or natural gas. A generator can run for 12 h on petrol or an unlimited period with gas.
