Trox develops airside fan coil units with high energy efficiency

FCU
The novel damper design in these airside fan coils from Trox contributes to more than halving energy consumption compared with other units on the market.
Trox claims that the energy consumption of its new range of airside fan coils is less than half that of other units on the market. Airside fan coils represent about 25% of the market and offer benefits such as improved control of room temperature and no valve maintenance compared with waterside units. However, one of the drawbacks of airside units is energy loss due to heat transfer, particularly in bypass mode when heating or cooling is not required. To prevent such carry over, the damper blades need to completely seal off the heat exchangers. Using over 30 years’ experience in damper technology, Trox has developed a mechanism and damper arrangement that is said to be unique in the industry. The blades have special seals with a high level of insulation. They are operated by individual actuators to ensure positive closure. There are two damper blades for each coil, and they close off both sides of the heating coil. The concept has been tested in BSRIA-approved facilities.
