The Simmtronic lighting-control system in the new London headquarters of a major law firm provides extra value by controlling fan coils.
Not only does the fully addressable DALI lighting-control system in the CatB fit-out of Allen & Overy’s new London headquarters provide a variety of options for the lighting itself, but it also holds on fan coils in response to presence detection and turns them off when lights go out. The system was designed and supplied by Simmtronic, and this feature is achieved using the X-feature lighting-control modules with two changeover relays. One of the world’s largest law firms, Allen & Overy is occupying all but four half floors, which it is sub-letting, of this 100 000 m2 building. The extensive DALI scheme has a newly developed SPECS Manager web browser that allows facilities managers for the first time to view a graphics over-ride system and access the control software from anywhere in the world. For convenience and ease of maintenance, the client wanted to avoid all sub-addressing — so nine output lighting modules have been installed and configured to one luminaire per port. In open-plan areas, the controls mainly switch lights on and off in response to the movement of people. Perimeter lighting is daylight linked for energy saving. Lights are also switched on in response to activated fire alarms. Simmtronic is providing the client with a comprehensive training programme to provide the capability to self-maintain the complete lighting system.
