Stokvis moves into biomass boilers

Talbott C Series biomass boiler systems are now available from Stokvis Energy Systems. There are four models in the range, and they can cleanly burn wood fuels with high moisture content. Outputs range from 50 to 300 kW. Larger outputs up to 1000 kW can be supplied to special order. Wood fuel is burned at steady and very high temperatures, so there are virtually no emissions to atmosphere. Their efficiency, as rated by an independent testing body approved by the Government, is higher than 80%. Inverter controls on all motors allow full modulation down to 25%. A vertical system of heat exchangers, instead of the more traditional horizontal, allows a continuous self-cleaning system to work, ensuring even burn throughout the fire chamber to maximise efficiency. A system can be programmed to switch itself on at given times, dates and temperatures. All four boilers qualify for exemption from the Climate Change Levy and are approved under the Clean Air Act for use in smoke-control areas.

More refrigerant bans possible, says government

The government could tighten up the rules that restrict the use of global warming refrigerant gases including speeding up phase-out programmes and introducing new bans, according to a spokesman from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
