Bailey results include record order book

Building-services provider NG Bailey’s operating profit for the year to 2 March 2007 rose by over a third to just over £12 million from just under £9 million the previous year. Net assets rose from just over £68 million to nearly £83 million. A fall in turnover from £491 million to £467 million was due to project phasing and fully in line with the company’s predictions last year. There was no underlying reduction in volumes, and NG Bailey reports a record order book going forward. Chief executive Mark Andrews says, ‘It has been another good year for us, but the most pleasing aspect is that we have put more building blocks in place to secure our future prosperity. Our strategy for growth will enable us to maximise the opportunities that the developments within the UK construction industry are bringing.’ The cornerstone of the company’s strategy for the next 10 years is a whole-life approach to buildings. Mark Andrews explains, ‘By combining our strengths and utilising the full breadth of our specialist capabilities, we will provide sustainable solutions that allow customers to maximise their value from buildings.’ During the year, Bailey, the M&E division, began work on the company’s biggest-ever contract — the £430 million PFI project for St Helens & Knowsley NHS Trust. This project makes extensive use of the capabilities of Bailey Off-Site to achieve reduced site programmes, lower material wastage and increased environmental efficiency. Bailey Maintenance exceeded its targets and improved its financial performance on the previous 12 months. The recent acquisition of control company ICS has extended Bailey’s capabilities in intelligent building-management systems. NG Bailey continued its investment in training programmes, and the engineering academy continues to welcome up to a hundred students every year. There are now record numbers of apprentices and graduates across the company
