Valves to a value of around £500 000 have been supplied by Hattersley for the Diamond Light Source synchrotron project.
Building services throughout the UK’s largest science facility to be built for 30 years have their valve requirements met by equipment from Hattersley. The company supplied some £500 000-worth products, including check valves, strainers and commissioning sets. They were installed by Haden Young for control of all heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems and chilled-water circuits. The extensive plant room of the Diamond Light Source synchrotron project in Oxfordshire also houses 400 mm butterfly valves — some of the largest valves produced. Ian Marshall, project engineer with Haden Young, commented, ‘This was a massive construction project, and the piped-services specification was very demanding. We have always found Hattersley products reliable, and through distributors BSS could supply the complete range of valves required — on demand and at the right price.’ Hattersley valves were also specified and installed by Haden Young for the adjoining ISIS Project scientific research building. As well as a range of butterfly, ball and check valves, Hattersley also supplied differential-pressure control valves to ensure control valves operate efficiently and allow energy savings through the efficient use of variable-speed pumps.
