SAS lighting rafts help meet sustainability requirements

Lighting and acoustics are combined into a prefabricated solution at the recently completed Beaufort office centre in Chepstow using SAS International’s System 600, which also enables the thermal mass of the building to be used for cooling by facilitating the free movement of air to the exposed concrete slabs. Beaufort Park is the first purpose-built serviced office centre in Chepstow, and its owners insisted that this speculative development has extremely strong environmental credentials that would meet current and future environmental regulations. Wynne Harris, a partner with M&E consultant Hoare Lea, explains, ‘The SAS System 600 rafts, by integrating lighting and acoustic comfort in one unit, mean capital and installation costs are also reduced. This offers significant advantages in terms of modern methods of construction and allowing the exposed soffit to work efficiently with the displacement-ventilation and night-time cooling strategy.’
