Mixer shower designed for the less-able market

Mira
Building on experience with its electric shower for the less-able market, Mira has developed the Select Flex mixer shower.
Mira Showers has introduced a mixer shower aimed at the less-able market, often referred to as the ‘inclusive’ market. The Select Flex has been developed from the existing Select mixer and is the mixer equivalent of the Advance Flex electric shower. Market manager Roger Crabb says that Advance Flex represented 41% of the total Advance sales in 2006, so he sees an opportunity with the Select Flex to increase its share in the less-able market by offering a specially adapted mixer, which is more complicated than simply using elongated levers. The Select Flex valve is TMV3 approved and has been developed with input from key influencers, including occupational therapists and also the Royal National Institute for the Blind. The aesthetics of Select Flex avoid an institutional look. The valve has a factory-set maximum temperature that can be adjusted on site. For added safety, the surface temperature of the metal hot-water elbow is kept to a safe level, and there are specially adapted and extended level controls. To help those with impaired vision, large and easy-to-read graphics indicate temperature. The use of brushed chrome where appropriate increases contrast but reduces glare. The slide rail fits close to the wall to prevent it being used as a grab rail and is a metre long to provide maximum flexibility for positioning the handset. A friction clamp allows one-handed operation. Other features include an extra-long 2 m hose and an additional parking bracket that could be used by carers. Variable pipe centres from 139 to 153 mm make installation easy in new and retro-fit installations.
