Junction box has integrated cable clamps

Electricians may be unwittingly breaking the Wiring Regulations, and thus not complying with Part P, by using inappropriate junction boxes for certain applications. The warning comes from Jane Yorke, product manager for Ashley and applies to junction boxes that are wired to provide a connection between, for example, fixed wiring and downlights. The concern is that when a traditional-style junction box is cabled up and then pushed through a hole in the ceiling, unclamped cables may come loose. A new junction box from Ashley is torpedo shaped to pass through a 58 mm-diameter hole in the ceiling. All cables are securely clamped and exit from either end of the junction box. Cabling space is maximised by having all connections to one side of the interior. There are separate terminals for flexible cords and twin and CPC cables. Cable clamps can be reversed to allow single or double cable entry, so up to one flexible and four flat cables can be terminated.
